Syd Brak was one of the most influential artists of the 1980s, perfecting an airbrush technique that allowed him to create some of the most iconic images of that decade.

Brak's paintings for the Athena publishing group became an overnight sensation. The images came about because, as Brak recalls, he was intrigued by the punk fashions that emerged in the late 1970s and wondered what this style might be like if it was reinterpreted by an Italian fashion designer. The glamour of the resulting images helped inspire the New Romantics movement of the time.
